GAMELAN ENCANTADA, Albuquerque-based percussion ensemble inspired by and rooted in the metallophone/gong/drum orchestras of Central Java. In addition, the group is committed to commissioning and performing contemporary and experimental works, with a focus on New Mexico composers.

About The Event

GAMELAN ENCANTADA is an Albuquerque-based

percussion ensemble inspired by and rooted in the

metallophone/gong/drum orchestras of Central Java.

In addition to presenting traditional Javanese music,

the group is committed to commissioning and

performing contemporary and experimental works,

with a focus on New Mexico composers.

In 2011, Gamelan Encantada celebrated its 20th

Anniversary with the release of the CD Oasis in the

Desert: New Music from New Mexico. In 2012, they

were Artists in Residence at UNM’s Composers

Symposium. They have also performed at the Outpost

Performance Space, the Harwood Art Center, Sunday

Chatter, Globalquerque, the Albuquerque Museum,

the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, and at

many other venues throughout the Southwest.
